Meeting Minutes, Feb. 20th
Minutes from Feb. 20 General Meeting:
- New member introduction
- Boats:
- Enough cash to buy boats
- AU needs to front money for operations costs for rest of the semester
- Pick-up in March/April
- Christening, but no tanning on the boat
- Sparkling cider on the boat, because this is a dry campus
- ODU in 2 weeks
- Start practicing in the next 2 weeks
- Navy Women’s Regatta over Spring Break- may withdraw
- Pinkerton is SENIOR-ONLY Regatta
- Clothing:
- Order ¼ zip sweatshirt
- Jackets if new/returning members want to interest
- Most of the room shows interest for sweatshirts
- Designs by next meeting
- Practices:
- Start scheduling practices
- AUTO will be dealt with by Nick tomorrow
- New sailors paired up with experienced members
- Priority given to those that are going to regattas/limited availability
- Shoot Lisa an email if someone can’t make a practice (up to 24 hours in advance)
- Call Lisa less than 24 hours in advance if someone can’t make practice
- New Members:
- Need photocopy of Drivers License/Gov’t issue ID and Health Insurance forms by next meeting
- Register with ICSA
- Old members do not need to resubmit anything
- Pictures from last season be emailed to Lisa to be put in Talon
- Raised money, but need to keep pushing:
- Generous family/friends or interest in supporting the team
- Fancy/creative fundraising ideas, talk to Jarrod
- North Sails raffle at ODU
- Get other teams involved/show seriousness in growing the team
- Pay dues!
- $100 for returning members, $150 for new members
- Calendar on AU Sailing website
- Mike Wallen - founder of the team is coming to campus on Feb. 29 and wants to meet the team at 7:00 PM (location/info TBA)
- End of the Year Dinner - May 1 (location/info TBA)
- If 21, fundraiser at MacFaddens on March 24
- $5 donation at the door (mention AU Sailing), happy hour prices all night
- Will go out in email
- Regattas:
- Everybody set for ODU - Nick, Jarrod, Peter, Barrett
- William and Mary Spring Qualifier (not open to new members) - March 31-April 1
- Noel?, Leigh?, Nick, Sam, Jarrod, Adam?
- Navy Women’s Regatta - 1st weekend of Spring Break
- Drexel/Jeremy Pinkerton
- Pinkerton (Senior Regatta) - Leigh
- Potential to take others down to Annapolis in an AUTO Van to watch Pinkerton
- Send out email with regattas with availability
- Chalk Talk for new members:
- Take a whole day learning how to rig boats, knots, etc…
- Dates:
- Feb. 29 - dinner with Club Founders
- March 3-4 - ODU
- March 5 - Team Meeting at 8 PM
- Week of March 5 - Practices begin
- To be able to go to a practice/regatta, you must have a Type III PFD
